DIVINARE, 2023

The Latin word and root, divinare, means to be inspired by a god. Whether thinking in the context of simple divination or how this idea can expand into other religions, its foundation touches on the practice of seeking knowledge into the future. Through the process of creating this work, I find myself wondering why anyone maintains a belief in the first place. Divinare navigates my personal exploration of divination practices as well as documenting attempts to account for how this interest has changed my perspective of belief systems.

Divination allows space for hope and the ability to find the good in bettering one's perspective. Developing this project has formed my education into these practices and their recorded healing abilities. By blending an unbiased outlook and my personal investigation, I am breaking down what it means to have a personal technique within a practice. This counters traditional perspectives of belief. Images of spiritual spaces being inhabited and the variety of reads presented to the audience nods to the reality of practice and seeing results despite inaccurate skill and form. By showcasing real-life accounts, historical elements, and how these fall into modern-day functions, I aim to change the notion of these practices.
