VAPELAND
VAPELAND is a visual presentation of generations exploited by the
endorsement of smoking through advertising and culture.
endorsement of smoking through advertising and culture.
Despite the world’s average attempts to change this for the better, most young adults have encountered some variant of smoking or vaping. These real-life encounters are coalesced with the humorously fictional, in an attempt to form a fantastical world, where sugar-coating the truth seems better than admitting its flaws.
A generational nicotine dependency blinds the truth within its harm, and without proper acknowledgment, we allow this problem to continue further. From the shift of cigarettes to vapes and weed to weed pens,
we have completely altered how we make having drugs convenient.
By using a youthful approach for visual appeal, the work is acknowledging the heart of this issue, while existing as a direct result of all that came before. Hopes of change become out of sight and overcome by their inescapability, while promotion and usage continue to excuse such harmful actions.
Combining these fictional deceptions with a documentative background blurs the lines of where our world stops and this fictional one begins. The more time spend exploring, having fun, and surrounding ourselves with others likewise, the harder it is to stop.
As the negative effects unwind, they kick in; we can’t stay in this world forever,
this ride eventually comes to a stop.
